Three Simple Ways to Honor the Summer Solstice

The Summer Solstice is happening! This Sunday, June 21, 2021 at 11:32pm EST the sun will be directly over the Tropic of Cancer, or 23.5 degrees north latitude. Technically speaking, the Earth will be positioned in its orbit so that our world’s North Pole is leaning most toward the sun. It will be the longest day of the year.

Have you said you're "having a long day," well on Sunday you'll no longer be being facetious!

The Summer Solstice is celebrated by different people in many elaborate ways. Gatherings, dancing, intricate concoctions of herbs and plants, or chanting, but here are 3 simple ways you can honor the Summer Solstice with or without others and without spending a dime!

  1. Have a dance party. Turn on your favorite playlist (alone or with friends) and dance your heart out. Dancing is prayer, dancing is purification, dancing is sacred! Dancing is all those things effortlessly! Prep for the dance party by journaling, taking a few deep breaths and allow yourself to be free.

  2. Go barefoot. Get outside and get over your fear of dirty feet. The ground isn't gross. Stepping on the grass or even just the concrete connects you to the life force of nature. Our day to day and obsession with work has created a huge disconnect between us and the pulsation of creation that we can connect to just by going barefoot outside.

  3. Start a little fire. Let this fire represent the fullness of the sun's strength, the healing power, and the life force that the sun provides. The sun's ability to create and destroy is represented in this fire. Whether it's a candle or a small fire pit, gaze into the fire and contemplate what you'd like to "destroy" and leave behind, and what you'd like to "create" in the flourishing summer months

If you want a little guidance, fun, and grounding...

On Saturday June 20th at 6:30-8:30pm EST I will be co-teaching a pre-solstice workshop titled Honor the Light Within. During this workshop you will have the opportunity to let me and my colleague prep you for the energy of the solstice and the upcoming summer months. You will get

  • Yin to the Yang Yoga Class with Jody Domerstad. Starting off with a slower, reflective yin practice leading into an energizing yang practice.

  • Meditation with me! Honoring the Light Within Meditation. This meditation facilitates a healing release of what we will leave behind and an energizing integration of what we will take with us in the summer months

  • Followed by q&a from all participants.
